Learning Team Goals

1. Every Team Member in our team receives an A on all of our Team projects/worksheets.

2. Our Team will be invited to the Ken Spencer finals, placed, and win the top prize.

3. Every Team member will do their share and take responsibility for what they have agreed to do.

4. Every Team member will attend our Team meetings. In the event that this is not possible, a team member will give at least 24 hours notice to the team, and arrange to receive assignments from the Team offline, online, by email, or by phone.

What are potential barriers to the achievement of these goals?

The barriers we may have in accomplishing what we design to accomplish are the following:

Communication barriers – E-mail updates must be send on a consistent basis in order to prevent conflicts and confusion. Since it is a large team, we must coordinate our efforts and maximize our time together and apart

Scheduling – Since we are a large team of 7, meetings will be coordinated to include as many people as possible. There will be times that certain team members miss the meeting, in that case, the team member that misses the meeting must read the meeting minutes, take responsibility over the role that was assigned to them, and contact someone if they are not certain of the task.

Time – All members, regardless of course-load is expected to contribute the same amount of work. For weeks that are difficult for one member, it will be established during weekly meetings how to distribute to accommodate. If one member was given fewer tasks during certain weeks, it is expected that member will increase their workload in another week.

Geographic barriers – Since we all live in different areas, we have decided on Tim Hortons in the West Mall of SFU Burnaby to be our meeting place.

Ground Rules

There will be weekly meetings every Sunday either in the afternoon or at night in front of Tim Hortons in the West Mall of SFU Burnaby. More meetings or separate meetings might be necessary throughout the term and during the end of the competition.

Everyone is expected to participate, keep up with the workload and assignments, complete their action items in time, and actively review the course website and other external entrepreneurial sources so that they can add insights to the meetings.

Action items will be distributed with at least 48 hours in advance. If action items cannot be accomplished in time, it is the responsibility of the team member to find someone else in the team that can take on the workload and communicate that to the team.

If e-mails are sent out and a reply is expected, that reply is expected within 24 hours.

If a decision has to be made, a majority vote will be used to make the decision.

Doodle will be used to schedule meetings, please update your doodle as your schedule changes.

Google Doc will be used to collaborate in writing assignments.

Windows Live Sky Drive will be used to share files.

Conflict Management

One problem that might arise is a scrambling near the time of deadlines to get a task done. Every step will be taken prior to the deadline to plan the work and avoid the scrambling. However, due to the nature of the large groups, last minute scrambling may still occur. Team members should be prepared during times right before deadlines to jump in and help as needed. This is also why it is imperative that team members do action items by the deadline.

If tasks are not being completed on a consistent basis or communicated on the reasoning, the team will address the said team member during the weekly team meeting. Steps will be illustrated to help that team member adjust back into a consistent schedule.

Deadlines for individuals’ other commitments will be accommodated as much as possible. However, if a team member had work removed for them to aid them during certain times, that team member is expected to increase his or her workload during other weeks.

All other conflicts should be addressed immediately during the team meetings, before they become a larger problem. All team members are expected to be respectful, calm, and help each other as much as possible.
