Dylan is a strong researcher, and an excellent writer and editor. He will direct the final written project and contribute as a versatile member of the group. He will also offer a leadership role when needed and will encourage the team to excel and stay on track. He will serve as our critical and creative thinker who is able to develop and realize the potential in our project from start to finish.

Sandy will act as our team secretary as she is very well organized. She will take notes and meetings and communicate those notes to the team via email. She will also develop an agenda for the team in order to help the team stay on track. She is also proficient in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

He has experience with Solidworks, which would come in handy if the team decides to create a CAD model from the project.

Kenta, Nickolas, Jeffrey and Richard, our engineering team, will assist in gathering technical information regarding parts, components, technology, etc. and communicate them to the team liaison. They will collaborate with each other for the research and development of the product. If required, they will also assist in generating sketches and models for the product.

In addition, Richard is specialized in technical customer support. He has experience writing training material for industrial customers.

Jeffrey also has basic business knowledge.

Learning Team Goals

1. Every Team Member in our team performs to the best of their ability.

2. Our group work will be a collaboration of our collective points of view and will not adhere to the direction of only one member. Every member must make their voice heard to fully contribute to the direction of the project.

3. Every Team member will do their share and take responsibility for what they have agreed to do.

4. Every Team member will attend meetings when possible. Flexible arrangements have been made so that this is not a strict guideline, so long as communication is strong.

Potential Barriers

Communication barriers – As business students and engineering students have different backgrounds, their knowledge and understanding of certain concepts may not be the same. Therefore, it is important for each member of the team to ask question when they are uncertain. The business students may also have difficulty understanding the technical side of things, while the engineers may have difficulty understanding the business side of things. Strong communication between members needs to be built in order to reduce ambiguity.

Scheduling barriers – As we have a total of 7 members on the team, coordinating meeting times for every member may be difficult. However, as mentioned above, flexible arrangements have been made attendance to every meeting is not necessary, so long as communication is strong.

Ground Rules

We will meet at least once a week either at the Burnaby campus or online. For those who are unable to make the meetings, we will update them via email. That person will also be required to ask for clarification if there is any uncertainty regarding what was discussed and assigned.

A team email has been set up so that all emails regarding the project reaches every member. Members should inform all team members if they are unable to make meetings. Emails should be kept brief and simple. Summaries of each meeting will also be sent to each member, which will include topics discussed, assignments given, and processes to be implemented.

Every member is encouraged to speak and communicate their opinions and ideas. We will not criticize each other opinions even if they differ from our own. We will actively listen when other members are speaking and comment on them after they have finished.

Every member should adhere to the assignment deadlines. If a member is having difficulty meeting the deadline, they should communicate this to all members. We are a collective unit, and although tasks may be split up amongst members, we will assist each other when required. We will communicate assignments a minimum of one week in advance and assignments will be clearly described. We agree to be understanding, courteous, and flexible with each other.

As a team, we all will be prepared to help each other. Moreover, each person is responsible for his or her own actions.

Phone numbers are not to be shared with anyone outside the team.

Conflict Management

If there is a problem with a team member not completing his or her assignment we will:

  • Be open and flexible with other team members, and gently reminding them of what they said they were going to do.
  • Be accommodating in our approach to collaboration.
  • We confront the team member privately, having our team leader do the confronting.
  • We ask our instructor to get involved.
  • As a last resort, we ask our Team member to resign from the team or we will forcibly dismiss them from the Team.
