Road Trip - New Ventures BC

A note of follow-up on the New Ventures BC awards function on Thursday 24 September...

NVBC is a new venture competition with a focus on the technology industry. Entrepreneurs just like you enter this competition to develop business ideas just like yours. This competition is a lot like the Ken Spencer competition at SFU. If you are serious about moving forward with a business idea (either the one from this class or another), I recommend you enter this competition next spring.

The competition is now over for 2009. Next Thursday, the winning teams will be announced. The awards ceremony is very inspiring and a great opportunity to meet people in the entrepreneurial field in BC. Most attendees will be wearing suits. Wine and cheese will likely be served. I recommend that all attendees bring business cards, as it's a great business networking opportunity.

I've been a business mentor in the NVBC competition for 7 years. Angie Schick, Program Manager of the NVBC venture business competition has graciously allowed me to take some BUS477 students with me.

Anyone interested?  First to confirm with a comment are in.  Sorry, I can only take 5.

Specifics:

  • SFU Segal School of Business
    500 Granville St.
    Vancouver, BC
  • 17:30 - 19:30

Thoughts for payback:

  • I'd like to see all attendees give a brief summary of their experiences to the class
  • I'd like to see all attendees volunteer a few hours of their time to NVBC. (Angie may or may not take you up on it. I'll introduce you at the event.)

Yes... this counts for class and community participation!
