Hey I stumbled upon this during my many searches:

It allows you to search any patent in the US. I happened to find one that's very similar to the product we're currently going to prepare a business plan for, but different enough that we can make our own patent :)

Also, when I went to visit Small Biz BC they had me use Selectory. It's a great database, and actually gives you a free 7 day trial. I'd recommend heading over to Small Biz BC yourself because the trial limits your search options, but it really is a handy little database. No why doesn't SFU spend it's money on this one too?
